Linux on a Dell Inspiron 3500
There a lot of websites about the Dell Inspiron 3500,
so I won't go into it much.
These are a bit dated but ...

Its OLD ok?!? :) The CPU is a bit slow for my needs these days. Alos the cd-rom drive
is on the noisy side. The general hardware is not too sturdy. The plastic parts are
the first to go. The raised bevels around the touchpad make an impression on the LCD screen.
Also the aluminium 'system board rails' (one of them) broke. Which is extremely annoying since
the screen is mounted on them. And I have yet to find a replacement. Dell keeps ignoring me.
Installing RedHat 8.0 (Psyche)
RH 8.0 installs quite well ... I started with 6.0 on this laptop, and each version of RH differs
a bit in the sense that sometimes the sound card is not supported correctly. However, RH now
has the source code for NeoMagic 256AV which is the video card and sound card, so no further
problems should be expected.
This should not pose any problems with all current distributions.
As mentioned above ... should not be a problem.
Dell hardware sucks! :( anybody got an extra system board rail?
